Political interviews

One of the great privileges of working in international news is that you sometimes get the opportunity to interview leaders, politicians and people who shape events around the world.

I've always been interested in the part of journalism that has been referred to as having 'a ringside seat at history' and being able to talk to some of the people involved, to find out what they are thinking and why they are doing what they do.

I've spoken to foreign ministers from Turkey, Ukraine, Iran, Tanzania, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary, Georgia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Palestine, Venezuela, Colombia, Azerbaijan, also the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Finnish Defence Minister and the British Trade Minister Kemi Badenoch.

  • I was reporting for TRT World from Antalya in Turkiye in 2022 on the peace talks between the Russian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers and had already built up a relationship with the Ukrainian Embassy in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

We were able to record this interview with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister almost as soon as he had left the meeting with his Russian counterpart.
